

The battle for ownership of the Euphronios vase illustrates perfectly how the New York Times publishing family fools only itself.

The Acquisitions Committee of the trustees approved the purchase twelve days later. At any rate, the bill of sale bears that date. On August 31, Hecht arrived with the vase in a crate and, according to one account, handed it over to Dillon and Hoving at Kennedy International Airport. Suzan Mazur: The Italy-Met Euphronios Accord? At the same time it has the potential to act as a basis for other agreements between other countries & museums around the world.
